Some names belong to a current public role. Others survive in a school contact card, an owner roll, an old street guide, or a grave entry. The people directories serving Burlington cover both present and past residents through city, county, education, business, and local-history sources. Each directory describes a limited role, so the strongest identification comes from matching names with dates, departments, addresses, or relationships.

Burlington People Directory Sources

Burlington people directories do not live in one database. City and education searches identify current institutional roles. Property and deed indexes list owners or parties to an instrument. Business sources describe entity roles or voluntary memberships. Historical volumes and cemetery records place a name in a past time and place. Start with the directory that fits the role already known, then compare its date and keeper with a second source.

Census QuickFacts for Burlington describes the city's population but does not name residents. No authoritative open residential white-pages directory was verified. There is also no stable statewide employee phonebook or public local alumni roster confirmed in the research. Those gaps matter. They favor official role-based searches and historical collections over a third-party name list with unclear sources.

Burlington Education Directory Search

The Alamance-Burlington School System staff directory filters by staff name and department. At inspection it ran across thirteen pages. Cards can show name, role, department, email, photo, phone or extension, and linked role details. These are current institutional contacts, so save the inspection date and confirm details before relying on an old result.

The ABSS directory screen shows the name filter, department selector, pagination, and staff cards used for a Burlington school contact.

The visible cards pair names with official school-system roles, which helps avoid merging two people who share a surname.

Elon Directory Near Burlington

Elon University's faculty and staff directory offers one Search the Directory text field and a Search button. Elon Law provides added controls for name, area of expertise, and department. The main directory's exact result fields were not verified, so use it to identify a current university affiliation and confirm the contact on the linked institutional profile.

The Elon faculty and staff screen gives Burlington-area searches an official university source without implying that a public alumni directory exists.

The simple name box is best used when an academic connection is already known.

Note: No verified open alumni directory was found for Elon, ABSS, or another local institution, so do not treat staff search as alumni coverage.

Search Burlington Staff Directories

The Burlington staff directory can be browsed by department or searched with category, first name, and last name controls. Categories span the City Manager, Clerk, Community Engagement, Finance, Fire, Inspections, Legal, Mayor and Council, Planning, Police, Public Works, Recreation, Transportation, and Water Resources. It is a work-function directory, not a personal biography source.

A staff result can contribute several separate facts:

  • the employee's listed name;
  • an official title and department;
  • a direct work number or department line;
  • an official email address when published; and
  • department details such as address, main phone, mailing address, and hours.

County contacts are strongest at department and location routing rather than one rich person-name interface. Public boards can fill a different need: commission and election rosters publish members, roles, and term dates. When no person appears, call the relevant department main line rather than treating absence as proof that a person has no role.

Burlington Property Owner Directories

The Alamance real-property search functions as an owner directory. County GIS adds owner name, mailing address, site address, parcel keys, acreage, value, deed book and page, sale facts, and a property-card link. Search by owner when a name is known, or begin with a site address and read the owner field.

Owner mailing address and site address serve different purposes. The mailing field shows where tax correspondence goes. It does not prove where the owner lives, and ownership does not identify every occupant. A deed index likewise lists grantors and grantees tied to a recorded instrument, not a general list of Burlington residents. For access rules and copies, use the Burlington public records overview.

Check the county first. Burlington crosses into Guilford County, so a Burlington postal address alone does not select the correct owner roll, GIS viewer, or recorder.

Burlington Business People Directories

The Alamance Chamber directory supports keyword, category, A-Z, and category-hierarchy browsing. A member entry can show an organization or person, address, phone, and category. It is voluntary membership, not proof of a government license, and absence does not show that a firm has closed.

The North Carolina Secretary of State Business Registration Search is the better directory for a legal entity role. It can identify entity status, addresses, officials, a registered agent, and filings. A registered agent accepts legal service for an entity; the role does not establish who runs daily operations. Board searches, such as pharmacy or general contractor verification, give stronger evidence of a current credential.

Burlington does not issue a general business license. Beer and wine sellers and taxi services are exceptions. That local limit means no complete city business-license directory exists, so combine the state entity search, a relevant licensing board, and the Chamber only when each source fits the question.

Burlington Cemetery Name Directory

The Burlington online burial search routes to the municipal grave locator for Pine Hill, Brown's Chapel, Northlawn, and Rest Haven. A burial result can connect a name with death dates and a grave location. City Clerk cemetery deeds add plot-right documentation, while an authorized Pine Hill survey adds section, row, lot, relationships, military notes, and marker images.

Brown's Chapel dates to about the 1840s. Pine Hill's independent cemetery survey took two years and was completed in 2012. Those projects show why a city locator, a clerk's plot deed, and a marker survey can describe different parts of the same burial.

The city burial-search gateway shows where cemetery directory research begins.

The city source helps locate the grave, while a deed, marker image, or obituary can add context and support a family-history conclusion.

May Memorial Directory Collections

The May Memorial local-history collection extends beyond city directories. It has more than 150 family Bibles, an Alamance County divorce index through 1963, obituary abstracts, newspapers, school and textile collections, city and institution photographs, and the Edward J. McCauley photo record from 1949 through 1971.

The repository has its own Burlington records story. The first public library began in Broad Street High School, later used a Main Street storefront, and moved into the former 1918 post office in 1938. A later expansion joined that building to a donated former Sears property, forming the library complex that opened in 2000.

Older newspapers through 1970 have remote options, while large later Times-News runs are held at library locations. Search newspaper text with spelling and address variants, then inspect the image because column layouts and names can be misread by optical character recognition. Exact shelf years for physical reverse directories, phone books, yearbooks, and funeral-home material were not published, so ask the local-history specialist instead of assuming a continuous run.

Historical Burlington People Directories

DigitalNC's city-directory collection has a verified, noncontinuous Burlington set from 1909-10 through 1962. Publishers include Miller, Commercial Service Company, and Hill. A name entry may show a spouse, occupation, employer, and home address. Volumes with a Street and Avenue Guide can reverse the direction, moving from an address to occupants or firms.

The set is not a continuous annual run. Search the nearest year on each side of a target date and preserve variant spellings and initials. For a person before Alamance County formed in 1849, move county record work to Orange County sources. The city volumes belong to the later Burlington record era.

Read Burlington Directories Precisely

A directory entry describes a role at a point in time. City and school cards establish an official function. A board roster records public service and a term. A tax roll identifies an owner of record. A permit names a contact or contractor on one application. A cemetery entry supports burial and grave placement. None of those sources, by itself, proves a current home address or a full life story.

Reverse directory
An address-to-occupant index, often called a street or criss-cross guide.
Owner of record
The person or entity named on the tax record at its effective date.
Registered agent
The person or firm designated to receive legal service for a business entity.
Grantor and grantee
The parties transferring and receiving an interest in a recorded deed.

Match a common name with middle initials, suffix, spouse, department, address, and date. For an old Burlington name, move between the nearest city-directory volumes and corroborate with a newspaper, deed, census, cemetery, or obituary. Preserve the source and year so a current entry is not mistaken for a permanent fact.
